“As detailed in Andrew Shea’s fascinating documentary “Portrait of Wally,”Egon Schiele’s haunting 1912 painting of his mistress and favorite model Wally Neuzil had a complicated, extremely dramatic history as well as a legal and cultural significance that can’t be overestimated… By showing how difficult and problematic righting a wrong can turn out to be, “Portrait of Wally” does itself proud.”

Last night around 9:00 pm. Joe showed me this documentary being played at a theater near our house. I’ve loved The Swell Season for awhile. “Once” sparked my interest and I was as moved as anybody when they won the Oscar for their roles in the film.

He was pushing 40 and she was barely out of her teenage years, but the two created some beautiful music together, starting up a band, The Swell Season, and touring all over the world. At the same time, three filmmakers — Nick August-Perna, Chris Dapkins and Carlo Mirabella-Davis — were documenting the rising success of the two musicians, as well as chronicling their love story, which unfortunately came unraveled. “The Swell Season” doc premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival back in June. During the Tribeca Film Festival, Vulture brought you an exclusive clip from The Swell Season, a story about Once actors-musicians Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová; now, with the documentary due in theaters next month, a whole trailer has debuted online. Consider it the black-and-white, real-life sequel to Hansard and Irglová’s winsome, star-crossed Once romance, which actually got consummated off-screen as the two toured in support of their musical efforts and Academy Award for Best Song. Alas, the age difference and the new demands of fame wore on the two, and their budding-but-disintegrating relationship forms the backbone of the new movie. (Is it anything that a gifted piano can’t fix?)

Here’s the Trailer for The Swell Season, which follows the stars of Once, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, after they won their academy award. Once is one of my favorites. It tells the story of a street performer and a struggling single-mother in Ireland who meet, make music, and fall in love. What’s strange about this follow-up story is that it is set in reality, following the two stars in the post of their success at the Oscars with Once (which I thought was a fictional story). Enjoy.
